Is Pour Over Coffee Brewing Worth The Effort?

Is Pour Over Coffee Brewing Worth The Effort?

I remember seeing pour over coffee for the first time. The barista carefully poured water over the bed of coffee grounds. A kitchen scale was below the mug and a timer was in his left hand.

I thought it was a load of…

I thought coffee was just coffee.

But there was a small part of me that was curious. Why would that barista dedicate all that time on just one or two mugs of coffee. And why would he be so particular as to use a scale and timer?

Once I set my skepticism aside and really asked these questions, it wasn’t long before I was making pour over coffee myself at home. I even got my own scale and timer.

Yes. Pour over coffee brewing is worth the effort.

It’s mentally rewarding, produces delicious coffee, and genuinely improves my life. I’m pretty sure it can do the same for you, which brings me to why I’ve written this post.

JavaPresse exists to enable you to thrive as a person, and we believe brewing incredible coffee is a gateway to personal prosperity. I’d love to walk you through some of the ways pour over coffee brewing can bring you delicious coffee and other types of benefits.

Pour Over Coffee Brewing Is Meditative

The slow pouring of water used to make me roll my eyes and cringe. I was so addicted to instant gratification that I could barely stand to watch it happen. Clearly, this wasn’t healthy.

Now I look forward to the ritual. Pouring water with purpose and care is meditative. It brings me to a calm, focused state. No matter what the day ahead holds, I can wake up knowing that a moment of peace is waiting for me when it’s time to brew coffee.

Pour over brewing is the kind of ritual we need to face the busyness of our culture. That moment of peace while you brew can change the direction of a bad morning. Pouring so much attention to a small thing really grounds you. A crazy day ahead just doesn’t seem so bad once you’ve had that moment to yourself.

Pour over brewing is a sanctuary in the midst of a crazy schedule. It’s the settling calm before the chaos.

You can’t get this mental reward by doing dishes or folding laundry. Those are mindless tasks that let your mind wander to thoughts of your busy life. Pour over brewing requires mindfulness - and it turns it into incredible coffee and a moment of solace.

Drip coffee pots will never provide this for you. They encourage mindless coffee brewing and mindless coffee drinking. Pour over brewing, on the other hand, has the power to transform your entire day before it even begins.

Pour Over Coffee Brewing Makes Delicious Coffee

Adopting the meditative ritual of pour over coffee wouldn’t be very appealing if it didn’t make incredible coffee. But it does. Oh. It does.

Pour over coffee brewing is capable of producing coffee that’s much more delicious, rich, and balanced than regular auto drip pots. Ripe flavors, a satisfying mouthfeel, and intense aromas are characteristic of pour over coffee.

The heart of the difference in coffee quality is in the mechanics of the brewer. Since pour over cones are simply designed, it’s extremely easy to control all the variables involved just right. Auto drip pots, on the other hand, have a really hard time keeping everything in line to brew great coffee.

There’s a reason why pour over coffee is exploding in popularity around the world. Most coffee shops now serve at least one type of pour over offering, but many have large lists of options.

Instead of auto brewing mediocre coffee and enjoying it some, you can craft a stellar cup of coffee by hand and enjoy it a lot.

Pour Over Coffee Brewing Increases Gratitude

All of this comes together to create the most lasting benefit of pour over brewing: gratitude.

Yeah, yeah. It may sound cheesy, but it’s true.

Brewing stellar coffee by hand is so meditative and emotionally calming that it changes us. It’s so counter to the busy culture we live in that it opens us up to appreciate things we wouldn’t normally.

Those few minutes it takes to make pour over coffee give us a moment of peace, which eliminates stress and anxiety. It makes us ready for the day ahead. It produces a mug of coffee that will remind you of your handiwork every sip.

This is how you can fundamentally change your morning mindset. You begin to see that these small rituals, even so small as manual coffee brewing, mean a lot to you.

As the anxiety bleeds away, you’ll begin to see the beauty of the coffee you’re brewing. You’ll appreciate every sip more and more. You’ll be open to gratitude in ways that seemed blocked before.

And over time, you’ll find yourself more and more thankful in other areas of your life. This kind of gratitude for the little things is infectious.
